This page explains the contract between you and Wrotebook, how we use your data, and who owns the material created through the service. It is written in plain English on purpose. If anything is unclear, email hello@wrotebook.com and we will explain.
Short version: you keep your source material, you own your book, we do not claim copyright in your manuscript, and we do not use your source material or generated manuscript to train AI models.
Wrotebook is a book-production service operated by Ficient Ltd, at www.wrotebook.com. References to “we”, “us”, and “the service” mean Wrotebook. References to “you” mean the person using the service, whether under a free account, paid account, or one-time purchase.

You must provide accurate account and payment information. You are responsible for activity under your account and must not share your login details with someone else. If you use Wrotebook for a company, client, or other organisation, you confirm that you have authority to accept these terms for that use.
Wrotebook helps you turn your submitted source material, brief, and preferences into a long-form manuscript using an AI-assisted production pipeline. Unless the checkout page says otherwise, one purchase covers:
Additional regenerations, extra revision rounds, or separate book projects are billed separately. We will tell you the price before you are charged.
Wrotebook is a book-generation and export service, not permanent cloud storage. You should download your finished manuscript, cover, and export files when your book is ready.
For paid projects, we will keep the project available in your account for at least 12 months from purchase unless you delete it sooner, close your account, breach these terms, or we are required to remove it for legal, safety, provider, or security reasons.
After the 12-month access period, we may archive or delete inactive project data. Where practical, we will send email warnings before deleting paid project content so you have a chance to return, download your exports, or ask for help. Deletion-warning emails are service messages; we may separately ask for consent before sending marketing emails.
Free, unpaid, abandoned, test, or demo projects may be deleted sooner, especially if they have not been claimed, paid for, exported, or used recently. We may also remove generated files, intermediate drafts, logs, and uploaded source files when they are no longer needed to provide the service, protect the platform, or comply with law.
You own your source material. You keep all rights you already have in notes, transcripts, drafts, recordings, documents, examples, or other material you submit to Wrotebook.
You own the book output. As between you and Wrotebook, the manuscript, blueprint, chapter drafts, cover outputs, voice rulebook, exports, and other project outputs produced for your project are yours. To the extent Wrotebook has any rights in those outputs, we assign those rights to you when they are generated. You can edit, publish, sell, adapt, license, or discard them without further permission from us.
Wrotebook keeps its own rights in the platform, code, prompts, workflows, templates, tests, diagnostics, model-routing logic, brand, and service design. Owning your book does not give you ownership of the Wrotebook engine itself.
By submitting material, you give Wrotebook a limited licence to host, store, copy, process, transmit, transform, and display that material only as needed to provide the service, generate and revise your book, export your files, provide support, maintain security, enforce these terms, and comply with law. This licence ends when it is no longer needed for those purposes, subject to backups, audit logs, legal obligations, and fraud or abuse prevention.
We do not claim a reproduction right to use your book in our marketing, portfolio, examples, training data, or public samples. We will only quote, display, or share your source material or generated manuscript with your permission, unless required for legal, safety, security, or provider abuse-review reasons.
AI output may not be unique. Another user could receive similar wording or ideas from an AI provider, especially for common topics, generic structures, or standard phrases. Your ownership of your project output does not prevent other people from owning their separate outputs.
Copyright law may treat AI-assisted work differently in different countries. Wrotebook gives you the contractual rights above, but you are responsible for deciding whether, where, and how to register copyright or publish the final work.
You are responsible for the material you submit and for anything you publish from a Wrotebook project. Do not upload material unless you have the right to use it. Do not publish material that is unlawful, defamatory, private, confidential, infringing, misleading, or unsafe.
Wrotebook can help draft, structure, revise, and export a manuscript, but it is not a publisher, literary agent, legal adviser, financial adviser, medical adviser, or fact-checking service. You are the editor of record for your final manuscript. Before publication, especially for non-fiction, memoir, professional advice, or books about real people, you should review facts, permissions, citations, privacy issues, defamation risk, and platform rules.
If your book includes third-party material, quotes, trademarks, private information, client work, workplace material, or stories about real people, you are responsible for getting any permissions you need.
Platform AI-disclosure rules.Some publishing platforms ask whether a book contains AI-generated content. Amazon KDP currently requires you to tell it when a book contains AI-generated text, images, or translations — and under KDP's published definition, manuscript text drafted by Wrotebook is AI-generated even after you edit it. Other platforms (for example Draft2Digital and IngramSpark) have their own policies, including expectations of substantial human editing or evidence of subject-matter expertise for some non-fiction. The declaration is yours to make; Wrotebook does not answer it for you. The Publish panel in your project links to each platform's current rules and keeps a factual record of your project's workflow (your Project Activity Record) to help you answer accurately. This is guidance, not legal advice.
For UK data-protection purposes, Wrotebook is the controller for the personal data it collects directly from you. We collect and process:
We use this data to provide Wrotebook, generate and export your book, authenticate you, process payments, provide support, maintain security, prevent abuse, debug failures, improve reliability, keep accounting and legal records, and comply with law.
Our lawful bases are contract where processing is needed to provide the service you asked for; legitimate interests where we run, secure, improve, and support the service in a way that does not override your rights; legal obligation where we must keep records or respond to lawful requests; and consent where we ask for optional marketing permission.
We use third-party providers to run Wrotebook. Current categories include hosting and deployment, database storage, authentication, payments, file storage, email or support tooling, analytics or error logging, and AI generation. Current core providers include Vercel, Neon, Clerk, Stripe, OpenAI, and Anthropic. Your brief, source material, and drafts may be sent to AI providers as needed to generate, revise, review, and export your book. Providers may process data in the UK, EEA, United States, or other countries under their own data-processing terms and transfer safeguards.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your source material, project data, generated manuscript, or exports to train Wrotebook models or third-party AI models. At the time of this update, OpenAI and Anthropic state that API/commercial customer content is not used to train their models by default. We may use aggregated, de-identified operational metrics, such as cost, latency, error rates, and completion rates, to improve the service.
Project content is visible to you when logged in and may be accessed by the Wrotebook operator where needed for support, debugging, safety, billing, legal compliance, or abuse prevention. We do not publish or share your project content with other customers.
We keep paid project data for at least the 12-month project access period described above. After that, we may keep it for a reasonable additional period for export access, support, audit, tax, security, dispute, and abuse-prevention purposes, or we may archive or delete it after warning you where practical. Free, unpaid, abandoned, test, or demo project data may be deleted sooner. If you ask us to delete your account or project data, we will delete or anonymise associated project data within 30 days unless we need to keep limited records for legal, tax, dispute, security, or fraud-prevention reasons. Backups may take longer to expire.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a copy of your personal data, and to complain to a data-protection authority. In the UK, that authority is the Information Commissioner’s Office. To make a request, email hello@wrotebook.com.
We use essential cookies and similar technologies for login, security, payment flow, and service operation. If we add non-essential analytics or advertising cookies, we will update this page and ask for consent where required.
We will always honour any consumer rights that apply to you and nothing in these terms is intended to limit rights that cannot legally be limited.
Because each book can commit significant third-party AI cost once generation starts, refunds are handled as follows unless checkout says something more generous:
Where a cooling-off period applies, starting generation before that period ends may affect cancellation rights for the digital service or digital content once you have asked us to begin performance. We will keep the checkout flow and this page aligned with the purchase model in use.
Do not use Wrotebook to produce, request, or distribute:
We reserve the right to refuse generation requests, suspend accounts, and delete content that violates this policy. We may do so without notice if the violation creates legal risk for us, our providers, or third parties. Refunds are not offered for accounts terminated for abuse.

Wrotebook produces AI-assisted drafts. We make real efforts to produce high-quality work, but AI output is not guaranteed to be free of errors, inaccuracies, or idiosyncratic phrasing. You are the editor of record for anything you publish from a Wrotebook manuscript. We recommend a human read-through and fact-check before publication, especially for non-fiction and memoir.
We do not promise that every manuscript will be accepted by a publisher, retailer, agent, prize, school, employer, regulator, or platform. We do not promise sales, reviews, rankings, income, or publication results.
We aim to keep Wrotebook available, but we do not promise uninterrupted service. The service depends on third-party providers, including AI providers, payment processors, hosting providers, databases, and authentication providers. Outages, rate limits, model changes, provider policy changes, or safety filters may affect availability or output.
You can stop using Wrotebook at any time. You can request account or project deletion by emailing hello@wrotebook.com.
We may suspend or terminate access if we reasonably believe you have breached these terms, created legal or safety risk, failed to pay, abused the service, attempted to bypass limits or security controls, or used the service in a way that could harm Wrotebook, providers, users, or third parties. Where practical and lawful, we will give you a chance to export your project data before termination.
We provide Wrotebook with reasonable skill and care. We are responsible for losses you suffer that are a foreseeable result of our breach of these terms or our failure to use reasonable skill and care. We are not responsible for losses caused by your submitted material, your publication decisions, third-party platforms, events outside our reasonable control, or your use of a manuscript without appropriate review.
We do not exclude or limit liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or consumer rights that cannot be excluded.
If you use Wrotebook for business purposes, our total liability for claims arising from a purchase is limited to the amount you paid for the affected project, except where the law does not allow that limit.
We may update this page as the service evolves. Material changes will be announced by email or in-product notice to active customers where practical. Changes apply going forward. If you do not agree to a material change, stop using the service and contact us.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, except where mandatory consumer laws in your country give you additional rights. If a dispute arises, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it informally. If we cannot resolve it, either of us may bring a claim in the courts that have jurisdiction under applicable law.
